The importance of objective evaluation

At work, we apply objective evaluation in one form or the other.

We do not just get up and do what we want, without a step by step approach of completing our work or tasks. Before we start work daily, our managers or we assess where we are and where we need to go on the day. We also continuously assess what we are doing throughout the day. Objective evaluation is not only about an initial assessment. It is about constantly evaluating the present state of things, a situation or work place or task.

Objective evaluation is the number one tool for consciousness. It is about being able to sit or stand or pause with your discomfort without aggressively or passive aggressively bleeding on others. Ultimately, you do not avoid pain, but you equally do not stuff your pain and repress your feelings.

Learning this skill helps in the following ways.

1. To avoid living a knee-jerk life where everything is a war. You them end up fighting with people when it is not warranted.

2. To prevent looking at every situation as a battle ground. When you do not pause and assess a situation, you might feel threatened.

3. To learn to self-parent and soothe for self-compassion. When you pause and evaluate a situation, this is a period of practising kindness for yourself. 4. To maintain self-respect and dignity. When you pause and choose your behaviour, you do not lash out at others.

5. To make decisions in your best interest and apply fit for purpose solutions. Pausing gives you an opportunity to reflect and choose a best behaviour.

6. To evaluate and choose your behaviour, triggers and decisions. It is empowering to recognise what are your best behaviours to apply in a situation.

7. To minimise impact of triggers, recurrence of triggers and even occurence of some triggers. As you make it a habit to practice objective evaluation, you familiarise yourself with your trigger management strategies.

8. Prevents victim mindset. As you take ownership of your life, you do not put the responsibility of how you feel on anyone's doorstep.

9. You create conscious relationships through self-knowing. As you learn to choose your responses, you improve the quality of your relationships.

10. To live a peaceful life based on owning your experience. The more responsive you are, and the more you are able to choose your behaviour, the more peaceful you become.

11. Create boundaries to avoid distress. Through self-knowing, you are able to explore what is in your best interest and choose spaces, behaviours and situations that minimise distress.

12. Accept what is and let go of attachment to outcomes. As you recognise the ability you have to manage yourself, you also appreciate and accept that life happens without fighting it. You let go of control and focus on how you can manage.

13. Allow others their choices through your example of allowing yours. Through learning to take charge of your life, you allow others the same privilege.

14. To avoid entitlement by demanding of yourself what you can do best. When you pause, you detach from expectations.

15. You focus on your journey. You have your life and journey, and as you objectively evaluate each situation, you trust the process and allow your journey to unfold. Only you can be its witness. SIFTSEM is an objective evaluation tool on Amazon.
